Putting passion into practice: Teach for America remains successful despite criticism

In the United States alone, 16 million children are living in poverty. Those 16 million children do not have access to high-quality education, and they are half as likely to graduate as those who grow up in economically sound areas.

Teach for AmericaIt is a disheartening statistic at best, but the problem of educational inequity in the United States hasn’t gone entirely unnoticed. And, with the aid of thousands of corps members, alumni and executive staff members, Teach for America is aiming to be part of the solution. A nonprofit organization founded in 1990, Teach for America aims to bridge the gaps in U.S. school systems by recruiting and training college graduates of all backgrounds, who ultimately spend two years teaching in low-income, under-resourced communities. Periclean Scholars enact change in India, promote global engagement

JamkhedSometimes, a simple e-mail is enough to make a difference around the world. For Thomas Arcaro, that e-mail was in his spam folder, and it almost never saw the light of day.
